Nisei Veterans Exhibit Reception
Hood River Nisei Veterans Exhibit Reception is coming up on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at The History Museum of Hood River County. “A Long Road to Travel: The Service of Japanese Americans During World War II,” is an exhibit for learning about the patriotism and courage of local Nisei soldiers. Free admission and refreshments available.
Advent Concerts return to Riverside
From jazz, rock, country and blues, from old standards to fresh new work, this year’s Advent Concert Series at Hood River’s Riverside Community Church is a Christmas stocking of delights. The free concerts, on Fridays at Noon in the Riverside Sanctuary, are a 50-year tradition at Riverside.
Friday, Dec. 2: Tess and Patrik Barr and Moe Dixon. The Barrs have been making music together for over 30 years, and play regularly at their own Hood Crest Winery and Distillers. Dixon is another longtime Gorge resident well-known for his music throughout the Gorge and worldwide, for his masterful guitar playing and powerful vocals.
Friday, Dec. 9: Jazz guitarist Charles Crosman. This classically trained guitarist has been playing the Gorge since 1990. The majority of his repertoire is drawn from Tin Pan Alley era jazz standards – songs with great lyrics that lend themselves to modern-day improvisation.
Friday, Dec. 16: Jazz pianist and composer Tim Mayer and friends: Joanna Grammon, vocals; Dave Henehan, guitar; Jon Green,bass; and Mike Grodner, drums. Tim and friends are a long-time Advent Concert favorite.
Discovery Holiday Open House
The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum in The Dalles will be hosting its annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. As a community thank you, the museum is offering free admission all day. There will be complimentary hot cocoa, cider, and cookies. Visitors will enjoy live holiday music throughout the day. Santa Claus will visit from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and free activities for kids will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Share what you can to help those who are less fortunate during the holidays by bringing a non-perishable food item, blanket, or winter coat to donate to local families in need. About the Event
Hood River is getting ready to celebrate all things winter at the first annual “Pray for Snow” Festival. The event, organized by Mountain View Cycles, is a tribute to Ullr (rhymes with cooler) the Norse god of skiing, and will be a time for snow sports enthusiasts to usher in a powder-filled winter. Locals and visitors of all ages are invited to celebrate the change of the season and repay Ullr for his gift of snow with a range of festivities on Saturday, Dec. 3.
To kick things off, Bryan Call, founder and owner of Hood River’s Cell Regen will guide us through a polar plunge at the Hood River Waterfront Park & Swim Beach. Here you’ll learn new breathing techniques and the multiple benefits of cold-water swimming.
As if your adrenaline wasn’t already pumping from the plunge, Saturday evening’s high-energy mixer at The Ruins will feature live music by The Chicken$#!t Gamblers, food, beverage, a silent auction, raffle prizes, winter movie viewings and more. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event runs until 10 p.m. All ages are welcome.
Come dressed as a winter god or goddess, or in your favorite Viking attire, and you’ll automatically be entered for a chance to win the crown for Snow King or Queen!

Festival Of Trees Gala returns
Mid-Columbia Health Foundation is happy to present the 2022 Festival of Trees Gala and Silent Auction on Friday, Dec. 2, at The Dalles Civic Auditorium in The Dalles. About The Event
Mid-Columbia Community Concert Association is proud to bring back, by popular demand, the ninth annual Dancing With The Gorge Stars competition. Six local Gorge "stars" will compete for your votes at this mid-winter fundraiser for MCCCA. Like the reality TV dance show, our contestants learn a dance routine prior to show time. But in this show, the competitors are our friends and neighbors from the Gorge area. Paired with a professional dancer from the Utah Ballroom Dance Co., they have one week to learn and perfect their routines before performing on stage before a live audience. Video highlights of the rehearsals are shown during the event to showcase how far each contestant has come in just one week.

Columbia Center of the Arts in Hood River presents “Gifted - A Mills Family Art Auction” to the gallery with an opening reception on Friday, Dec. 2, starting at 5:30 p.m. The show features art from the collection of the Kate and Jack Mills family which was generously ‘gifted’ to Columbia Center Arts. Over one hundred pieces of art spanning 100 years will be featured in the gallery as well as pieces of memorabilia and jewelry. In addition, art from Sally Bills Bailey, Peggy Dills, sculptor Roxanne Swentzell, Eugene Bennett, H.F. Wentz and Rafa Fernandez. Music in the lobby was provided by pianist Tim Mayer.
