Letters To The Editor
Kudos to Rachel and Aaron Carter for their award as “Philanthropic Biz of the Year” - for four years in a row!
The Carters support an impressive list of community endeavors and organizations in the Gorge. We wanted to let you know that the Carters are also Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association’s most generous supporters.
David Stuebe puts people over politics. He has spent his life in service to his community and to his country with 30 years in the Marine Corps, retiring as a Colonel. David’s resume is impressive and speaks to how he will be as a legislator - compassionate, moderate and collaborative.
We've been fortunate to bring in high quality equipment, and make it accessible to local startups, innovators, hobbyists, businesses and of course our students. Through economic development partnerships with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the AM&F program has kept $382,000 in our region.
As mayor and a moderate conservative, his ability and track record of "working across the aisle” is impressive. In these times of political division, we need a representative who cares about ALL citizens and can secure funding to address OUR district's needs as David has done in Washougal.
As the former director of the Port of The Dalles, I believe that a robust community college is essential for providing workforce training to support new and expanding businesses. This training is crucial for attracting and nurturing local enterprises, thereby creating employment opportunities for our youth and fellow citizens.
He is the hardest-working candidate I’ve ever encountered. Nick has visited The Dalles many times. He has personally telephoned me several times and knocked on our door at least twice. Recent polling showed him just 3 points behind the incumbent.
He's not a "politician," he is someone who has dedicated his career to community service. I have met him and listened to him speak several times when he has come to The Dalles. While he lives in a rural community closer to the metro area, the fact that he has been spending so much time on the east side of our district shows me he is committed to serving us.
I've lived and worked in Wasco County for the past 54 years and I am a registered Republican. This election my wife, Sharon Stewart, and I will be voting for Kamala Harris for President and Tim Walz for Vice President because we love our country and cherish the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
We had participants ranging from age 3 to 83 and coming from throughout Oregon as well as Arizona, California, Washington—and even Minnesota. The seven decades of coaching from 1968 to 2024 were all represented—sometimes by the individual runners and sometimes by parents and grandparents as well.
CGCC may not always be top of mind for many of us, but its influence on our region is unmistakable. From nursing and healthcare programs to trades and technical training, CGCC equips residents with the skills to thrive in essential local industries.
This bond measure was written carefully to bring in enough taxpayer investment to secure a significant matching grant from the state with no tax increase, and still be enough to complete the highest priority campus safety, technology, and infrastructure updates in The Dalles and Hood River.
I remember the day when we cut the ribbon on the new building in HR and joined the college district. Since then, countless kids (and adults) have benefitted from this local educational resource. As the buildings age, we need to keep them up and modern. I want the next generation to have the same high quality CGCC that we enjoy today.
I choose hope and respect, not party affiliations. What matters is what works best for the majority of Americans, not the billionaires paying Trump’s campaign costs for the tax cuts only they will get in 2025.
With a national shortage of healthcare professionals, our local college is stepping up to fill the gap by providing high-quality, affordable education and training. By supporting this bond, we are supporting local students, creating jobs, and strengthening our healthcare system.
In just over three years, Biden’s major accomplishments resulted in dozens of benefits for Americans, despite obstruction from congressional Republicans. Five accomplishments benefiting the Pacific Northwest and you:
Since August of 2023, I have been honored to serve as your President for Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC). As reflected in our mission, CGCC is committed to advance economic growth, to promote the prosperity of all residents throughout the college’s district, and to help communities thrive in the face of today’s fast-changing social and economic realities.
I grew up in the same neighborhood as Nate, throwing the football with our fellow neighborhood kids, and then watched him grow into a talented golfer, swimmer and football player himself. Nate has always shown a great ability to connect with athletes as a coach; something that not everyone (even some coaches) can do.
How can a place so special and sweet be cared for by so many people, but be devastated by a group of one? I recently learned that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contaminated Bradford Island for years, all while Indigenous and local fishermen used the area to catch fish. They dumped electrical components, hazardous waste, and light bulbs into the land and river.
Project 2025, an initiative by the conservative Heritage Foundation in collaboration with key advisors to former President Trump, outlines a plan to significantly curtail reproductive rights across the United States.
Marla Keethler is consistent in her policies, understands the process of governing, is a good communicator, uses her staff wisely, does not bring attention to herself, and works in the best interest of the people she represents. There is no drama with Marla.
I would like to thank MCF&R and Northern Wasco County PUD for their quick response this morning (Monday, June 3) I called 911 and MCF&R responded immediately and someone from PUD arrived very shortly after the fire truck.
“When you have a person running for president who is not willing to say, I believe the outcome of an election, that’s a threat to Democracy”.
While Donald Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by almost 3 million votes, and lost the popular vote to Joe Biden by 7 million votes, he won a unanimous 12 popular votes of his fellow New Yorkers on 34 felony counts for business and election fraud crimes that allowed him to win the Presidency via the Electoral College in 2016.

Rather than focusing our efforts on mass arrests criminalizing and deporting individuals who have been here contributing to our communities and paying taxes, or have made perilous journeys in search of better lives often leaving behind families, shouldn’t our time be spent fixing our broken immigration system, deporting criminals who have committed real crimes, reducing red tape and the layers of bureaucracy that slows down and creates roadblocks in the system for present and future contributors to the betterment of our nation?
