The elections team wrapped up counting all available ballots before heading home at 11 pm last night, including the drop boxes in Simnasho, Maupin, Dufur, The Dalles, and Mosier. 

Oregon Health Authority (OHA) Director Sejal Hathi, MD, MBA, met with health leaders and partners on Thursday in Hood River and The Dalles as part of a series of visits around the state to hear about community health needs.

As of 11 p.m. on May 21st Hood River County’s primary election saw a voter turnout of 47.04%. Election results will be updated again on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 by 5 p.m. with mailed ballots and again on June 11th at 5 p.m. with resolved challenged ballots.

Initial election results of the Wasco County May 21 primary election show a voter turnout of 30.96% with 5,760 ballots cast out of 18,605 registered voters as of 9 p.m. today. Unofficial results will be updated at midnight. Updated results that include postmarked ballots will be posted on May 24. May 28, 2024 is the last day the County will receive valid postmarked ballots by mail.

Jim Daniel, a 24-year resident of Goldendale, has joined the crowded primary race for Washington State Governor as a moderate Republican, vying with 27 others for a spot on the general election ballot.

Results are already returning from the 4A Oregon State High School Track and Field championship that started today, May 17, in Eugene at Hayward Field. Julian Moorehouse reportedly took fourth place in the pole vault with a height of 13’05”. Read more here.

These girls are crushing the ball, running up scores such as 24-9 over Barlow, 15-0 over Madras, and 12-2 over Hood River Valley. They are coming into the playoffs hot. First game of playoffs is Tuesday, May 21.

Mauro Faulha, 28, from Portugal, recently made the trip to the United States from the Azore Islands as he and his pit crew are preparing to get this Hyundai Rally Ready for the Oregon Trail Rally set to take place this weekend in and around both Goldendale and The Dalles.

May 15th was one of those perfect days in The Dalles, with the sun shining and everyone out enjoying the weather. Naturally, the skate park was buzzing with activity. Among the skaters, Nick Rios stood out.

The Dalles High School held a signing day ceremony for Senior Anthony Jara, on May 14th, at 3 p.m. to celebrate the continuation of his education and his continuing football career at Eastern Oregon University.  

The violation was the third for the program this school year as OSAA has levied a total of $1,200 in fines, forced a two-game suspension of Head Coach Brian Stevens, and forced the team to forfeit 12 games due to ineligible players during the past 6 months.

North Central Public Health District (NCPHD) is excited to partner with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) at this year’s Wasco County Children’s Fair to educate the public about the dangers of lead poisoning. OHA is offering free, confidential lead screening for soil and children’s toys on May 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Children’s Fair at The Dalles City Park.

The Chenowith Cougar Boosters, the name of their parent-teacher volunteer organization, has launched two new college scholarships for students who attended Chenowith Elementary School in the past.

Members of the Portland branch of Jewish Voice for Peace will appear in Hood River on Thursday, May 16, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., to offer a presentation titled "Not in Our Name: Why Jews join Palestinians in saying free Palestine."  The event will take place in the Riverview Room at Riverside Community Church, 317 State St., Hood River.

The Oregon Women Lawyers (OWLs) will be conducting their annual book drive to support the library at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, Oregon’s only women’s prison, May 13-29. There will be book collection boxes situated near the court clerks' offices in courthouses at The Dalles, Hood River, Condon, Wasco, and Fossil.

Effective Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the City will be enforcing The Dalles Municipal Code 10.13.070.040(C) (Removal of signs in public right-of-way or on City-owned real property) and removing non-permitted political campaign signs brought to the City’s attention as being located within the City’s public right-of-way or on other City-owned real property.

The Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission hosted its second annual Columbia River Round Dance last Friday, drawing 430 attendees to honor Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People (MMIW/P). 

The Dalles High School held a signing day ceremony for Senior Jazmine De La Cruz, on May 8th, at 3 p.m. to celebrate the continuation of her education and her soccer career at Lane Community College. 

The Columbia Gorge STEM Hub in collaboration with Career Connect Southwest WA and Columbia Gorge Community College hosted its third annual College & Career Expo on Friday, April 19th at CGCC’s Campus in The Dalles. 138 students from 11 high schools in the region (6 from Washington and 5 from Oregon) attended this year’s event - the largest number to date.
