The grant-funded event was coordinated in partnership with a small group of dedicated high school seniors at Columbia High School and the White Salmon Valley Education Foundation’s executive Director Kyllie Uffleman.

“We are excited to see our vision taking shape at this event where our schools and our community are working together to engage and prepare our students for a bright future,” said Uffelman.

“It seemed like the kids had a good time and connected with some people from their community, who have different careers that maybe they hadn’t thought about having,” said Uffelman.

The event was designed to offer area high school students opportunities to explore career paths and connect with industry professionals, the event includes a Career Fair featuring local businesses and organizations and panel discussions with business owners and leaders from the community.

Presenters gave presentations on careers in marketing, news, business ownership, hospitality, education, healthcare, engineering, architecture, forestry, law enforcement, military, and more.

“I was impressed with how well organized it was, the turnout was great,” said one event staff member.

“Students came out of here having different ideas about their future,” said Sue Renken, of Education Service District 112.

“I feel like I got a lot of information because I feel like we don’t get a lot of information from everyday life. Like you hear about your parents having jobs and that’s cool…but I mean I couldn’t tell you exactly what my mom does for work,” said student Nina Hartmann, “Like I know what she does, but I can’t explain it. And it’s nice to have someone be like: this is what I do, this is how I do it, this is what a day looks like…and, you know, just give you an idea of what your life could be.”
