Oregon surpasses million-acre mark in fire season only second to 2020... so far

As of July 25, more than 1 million acres are estimated to have burned in Oregon as megafires at more than 100,000 acres are burning in three locations in the eastern part of the state.

Larch Creek Fire Update July 10: More accurate mapping places fire at 7,100 acres

Initial attack crews worked through the night putting in dozer lines and burnouts along the east and west flanks from the north down to the unsecured south. The Central Oregon Type 3 Interagency Fire Management Team as well as the Green Incident Management Team from the Oregon State Fire Marshal are in place at the Dufur High School.

Semi-Truck Collision Closes Hood River-White Salmon Bridge

A semi-truck crashed on the Hood River-White Salmon Interstate Bridge this morning, Thursday, June 27, 2024, closing the bridge until further notice. The incident occurred when a semi-truck, pulling an excavator on a flatbed, failed to lower the excavator's arm sufficiently. As the truck crossed the bridge, the excavator's arm struck the span lifts, causing severe damage.

Nurses Strike at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital

Hundreds of Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) members from six Providence hospitals including Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, have participated in a three-day strike that began early Tuesday, June 18. At some hospitals, picket lines began forming at 6 a.m. Nurses are striking for adequate paid leave, fair labor practices, affordable health insurance fair market wages, and smaller patient-to-nurse ratios.
