TDHS Winter Sports Have Huge Turnout
By Xavier Orion Olaez
Just two weeks until winter sports for The Dalles High School kicks off with a basketball jamboree.
In the past year, we’ve gone through the COVID pandemic which has limited games, taken players out and generally dropped the level of play. But things are getting back to normal with a few changes of course.
But this year fall sports had a good turnout with a lot of students participating in all sports and after talking to Atheltic Director Billy Brost, winter sports has an amazing turnout.
The Dalles High School is going to have three teams each for boys and girls basketball and up to 40 students for wrestling and a good amount for swimming and skiing.
Having such a great turnout is amazing news for our town and school.
I encourage everyone to support our teams and go to as many games/competitions as possible. We have so many talented athletes who compete well. Our cheer team is coming off of winning the state championship for cheer and, of course, they are hoping to repeat that success.
Our basketball teams are very talented. The girl’s team is young but with new head coach Darcy Hodges they hope to build the program up. Greg Cummings has an older boys team who did very well in their summer league, and they are hard at it in the gym to continue that success.
The swimming team has always been quite successful doing well in competitions, and with Shea MacNab at head coach, they hope to get even better. Our wrestling team has the biggest turnout under the Paul Beasley era, and his wrestlers tend to do very well. He typically has two to four athletes make it to state.
The high school is still working on all of the schedules but we do have the basketball schedules. Click here for boys basketball. Click here for girls basketball. The girls basketball team is hoping to have three more games added to the schedule. Watch for our update.
