Mark Powell can’t wait to have a new front door at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral home after a vehicle drove into the building on New Year’s day.
It may be a few more weeks as the settlement from the insurance companies is still being settled.
Powell took CCCNews on a short tour this morning, March 27, as a major remodel is going on at the funeral home constructed in 1918.
The renovations were somewhat forced when a black Subaru Forrester drove into the side of Spender, Libby & Powell Funeral.
No one was injured, but it broke quite a few boards, smashed the sheetrock and tore up the pink brickwork on the facade of the building. The front lobby and viewing room in the funeral home were rendered unusable.
This morning, Powell showed the interior work that has been completed thus far. He said the front door entrance to the building will be moved to the center of the building and the front lobby will have new vaulted ceilings when the work is complete.
In addition, Powell said other renovations were on tap for the funeral home. He said the breezeway will be eventually closed off and a gathering hall will be constructed, complete with the ability for catering.
