TD Car Wash produces a lot of suds: $3,500 goes to Rojelio's family

Rojelio Castellanos

“It was so worth it,” said Arianne Walker of fighting off the freezing cold in soaked jeans on Saturday, March 25, while washing dozens of cars in The Dalles. “We ended up raising with what Tara contributed from bagels and donations, we ended up with $3,500.”

Tara Woolsey is the owner of T & T Coffee and Bagels and donated $1 per bagel sold during the car wash.

And it all went to the family of Rojelio Castellanos. The 37-year-old body shop man at Underriner Ford in TD passed on March 18 after a stroke.

“There was just such an outpouring of people. We were busy right up until 2 p.m.,” Walker said, noting two additional people showed up to suds some vehicles on their day off.”

“One guy came through with 5 different cars,” she added, noting the man was a previous boss to Rojelio. “And he brought donuts and pizza for us later and donated every time.”

“It was amazing. Just seeing all of that was so awesome,” she said. “...I would hope if something happened to anybody in my family they would get help like this… You know it is not just about us.”

Friends of Rojelio: Michael Blanchard, Arianne Walker, Luis Garcia, Jorge Garcia and Valente Garcia. They showed up on their day off to run a fundraiser car wash for Rojelio. Mission accomplished.

Friends of Rojelio Castellanos saw a huge flow of vehicles needing to be washed as their car wash fundraiser was in full swing today, March 25. Above, Jorge Garcia and Valente Garcia workmates of Rojelio put a shine on this Toyota as they were five cars deep.

“It’s been like this all day,” said Arianne Walker who organized the event and was enduring the frigid winds and back spray from the hose.

Jorge Garcia and Valente Garcia put some elbow grease into it.
