TD man found deceased and laying on bike on Wasco Street in Hood River
Hood River, Ore., Oct. 17, 2023 - Authorities suspect no foul play in the recent death of a The Dalles man who was found lying on his bicycle in Hood River in the 1800 block of Wasco Street on Sunday, Oct. 8th at around 2:30 p.m.
“It appears to be that he died from natural causes,” said Hood River Lt. Don Cheli, who said the man was experiencing houselessness. “It looks like he had sat down to rest and had a possible heart attack. We have yet to determine the cause but everything appears to be natural.
The man has been identified as Mark Wesley Reed, 55, a former resident of The Dalles.
Cheli said the man was found by passersby. He was face down and not breathing.
Police later learned that he had been walking with another male, and Reed complained of having difficulty breathing, and he stopped to catch his breath. The other individual carried on in his walk, leaving Reed alone.
After receiving the report, four police vehicles responded to the scene and blocked off a small portion of Jaymar Road, allowing for EMTs to examine Reed.
“If we hear back from the medical examiner that it is anything else other than natural causes, we will resume that investigation,” Cheli said.
