2025 is already shaping up as Northern Wasco Parks and Rec. is moving fast on the new Tree Top playground at Sorosis Park in The Dalles. The ribbon cutting is set for Jan. 18

Work will begin soon to replace the existing Tree Top Playground at Sorosis Park in The Dalles. The last day for public access to the playground is Wednesday, September 25. On Thursday, September 26, temporary fencing will be installed around the perimeter of the playground site to promote safety and limit access to the site.

The Dalles Kiwanis Club hosts its annual Steak Feed Thursday after Labor Day, this year Sept. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sorosis Park.

In a continued effort to restore Sorosis Park’s Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District (NWPRD) in collaboration with Alpenglow has planted 25 new trees at Sorosis Park.

Sorosis Park was buzzing with activity this morning as a diverse group of volunteers gathered for a weed pulling event organized by Google and North Wasco County Parks and Recreation District.

Annette Beyers and Mike Richardson talk about plans for improving Sorosis Park and the fundraising that is left to do this morning, June 8. Beyers had maps and brochures about the current fundraising that will go towards landscaping, the construction of an ADA-accessible gazebo/pavilion, and improved walking trails.

On December 8th at 9:30 a.m. at the Columbia Gorge Toyota and Honda we will be doing a check presentation with Scott Baker from Parks and Recreation to donate all funds raised from the event. We have a total of, $3,260 that will be donated specifically towards the Sorosis Park replanting fund.

Dry Hollow principal Ajay Rundell spurred donations when he came to school in this pig costume. Students at the school raised thousands of dollars for trees at Sorosis Park in a Kiss the Pig fundraiser.

Monday March 22, 2021, the City of The Dalles Public Works will begin installation of a sanitary sewer main on East Scenic Drive between the entrance to Columbia Gorge Community College and the entrance to Sorosis Park.

CCCNews recently got a hot tip from Lynn Smith Gannon when we went to the old electronic mailbag. She said a friendly guy named “David” was volunteering at Sorosis Park seven days a week. She did not have his last name, but we here at CCCNews had our suspicions.

Joe Frisby and Harris Farr, both 24, hit the baskets at Sorosis Park on Tuesday afternoon for a round of Disc Golf under scattered blue skies. The Two men said the course had really opened up for the better since the removal of dozens of pine trees.

Sunny skies are expected through Wednesday with a high of 53 degrees Fahrenheit. Chances of rain are increasing starting on Thursday with snow forecast in the upper elevations.

Michael Knopf, MCPO, US Navy, Retired led a prayer and shout out to all branches of the Military today, Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial at Sorosis Park in The Dalles. During the Veterans Day event, one member of the Patriot Guard Riders fainted and an ambulance and fire engine arrived to assist.

With brushes in-hand, Kiwanis members spent the beautiful afternoon enjoying the camaraderie and sealing picnic tables and benches at the barbecue area at Sorosis Park. The project has been long-needed at the popular gathering site. The service provided a huge boost to Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation, which received hundreds of hours of free labor.
