Gilliam County to create own health district, leaving North Central Public Health
This month, the commissioners and judge on the Gilliam County Court voted to form their own county health department. The county will start its own health department on July 1, 2022.
Carjacker gets 90 month prison sentence
29-year-old Marcos Vargas received a 90-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to charges related to a chase that started in Arlington, led to a carjacking of a Subaru in The Dalles, and ended in a wreck on Highway 97 near Maupin where he fought with officers, was tazed and taken into custody.
Soft White Wheat - Lack of Rain Brings some Pain
The Soft White Wheat harvest is serving up a little heartbreak this July as farmers are cutting into their fall crops to find wheat heads yielding around 50 percent of a normal year. A smaller harvest and depleted supplies from record sales last year could mean a bounce in price though.

Public Heath Website improved to coincide with coronavirus vaccine rollout
