Fishing Guide's body recovered downstream of White Salmon River on Monday, sept. 30

Michael Shufeldt of Woodland, Wash., was found at about 9:48 am in the Columbia River approximately 1.75 miles west of where he was last seen near the mouth of the White Salmon River. The commercial fishing guide was the only one to perish when the wind blew up and a wave capsized his boat on Sept. 25. His six passengers were rescued.

Woodland Guide presumed drowned after boat swamps in Columbia at mouth of White Salmon

The missing boater has been identified as Michael Shufeldt of Woodland, WA. Michael was not located in the vicinity of the vessel and is presumed deceased. Additional searches of the area using an underwater remotely operated vehicle, have not located Michael at this time. Shufeldt is the owner of Reel Deal Fishing Adventures.

Maryhill Museum of Art Embarks on an Exploration of The Columbia River: Wallula to the Sea

Maryhill Museum of Art, situated on a hilltop overlooking the Columbia River, celebrates the myriad ways in which humans have interacted with this vital waterway in its 2024 special exhibitions, including The Columbia River: Wallula to the Sea and King Salmon. The museum opens for the season on March 15, and the special exhibitions will remain on display through November 15.
