Lawson named president at Columbia Gorge Community College

The CGCC Board named Dr. Kenneth Lawson the new president of Columbia Gorge Community College at its Tuesday, June 20 meeting after completing a search during the past several months. Lawson was chosen from a panel of four finalists that were seeking the position. He begins the job on Aug. 1.

$85k in Google funds used to better train locals for manufacturing

CGCC expands job training at Skills Center with the addition of CNC milling equipment through a grant funded by Google. “This equipment is part of the future of automated manufacturing -- everything from farm equipment to furniture to airplanes,” said the college’s president, Dr. Marta Cronin. “Our students can now master this technology before they enter the workforce, launching them into family-wage jobs.”

$1.2 million federal grant to bolster health care classes at CGCC

The grant will enable faculty support for the Medical Assisting program. It supports the college’s plans to offer nursing students a part-time option, creating a three-year program in addition to the current two-year program. And it will jumpstart the college’s development of paramedic and EMT training.

Students to get hit with a Roundhouse... Grant, that is, for tools at CGCC Skill Center

With this grant, Advanced Manufacturing students now have a welding jacket, angle grinder, a ball-peen hammer, vice grips and clamps. Construction Technology students receive a hardhat, headlamp and other safety equipment they’ll need for class and job site. Plus, all the students receive $160 to purchase work boots.
