Solstice Pizza fired up at 6th Street Station in TD
By Brittany Drewett
The Dalles Ore. December 21, 2023 — Growing up, we would occasionally go out and grab a “fast food buffet.” We would drive to multiple fast-food restaurants and pick up different items that sounded good to one or more of the people in the car. Next, we would drive to the park and unpack our goodies. These meals were always a fun way for everyone to get exactly the meal they wanted.
Later in life, we noticed the food truck courts in the Portland Metro area. We always said we would go grab lunch at a food truck the next time. Sadly, it never happened.
Now, we have the opportunity right here in The Dalles! 6th Street Station offers an assortment of food trucks as well as indoor dining and a bar.
In addition to food and beverage options, 6th Street Station offers events and activities for the community to enjoy. Be sure to follow them on social media to stay up to date on all they offer!
Their walls feature artwork by local artist Denae’ Manion. These pieces are waiting for someone to buy them and give them a forever home. Local artwork is always a wonderful idea for a holiday gift. Be sure to swing inside and check them out!
In addition to her hanging art, Denae’ painted the walls and ceiling of 6th Street Station and helped provide a unique ambiance. She has held Paint Night events as well as art shows and has been a part of themed nights as well! Some of the themed events have included Y2K, 80’s Dance Party, and Christmas Karaoke!
6th Street Station has a tic-tac-toe game sitting out and there is a pool table that is free to use! They are family-friendly and have fabulous, friendly service.
We arrived at the food trucks at 11:30 on a Friday morning. After a quick walk around, we made our lunchtime choices and placed orders. Each food truck employee was friendly and the service was exceptional. We took our food inside to eat.
Upon entering the 6th Street Station building, we were instantly welcomed by the employee behind the bar. She made sure to tell us she was there to help with anything we might need.
The tables and floors were clean and the atmosphere was welcoming. A few other people were eating their lunches and watching sports. It was exciting to see the variety of food options! Additionally, I was impressed to see many food truck employees bringing food to their customers.
Solstice
What is better than pizza?
Wood fire pizza! Ok, Ok. So, then what is better than wood fire pizza? Solstice Wood Fire Pizza!
The legendary pie maker founded by husband-and-wife team Suzanne and Aaron Baumhackl now has a food truck at 6th Street Station’s parking lot, and it is true to their roots, spectacular! You cannot go wrong when choosing Solstice for a lunch option.
Solstice started its journey in Bingen in 2007. In 2013, their Bingen location closed and they moved the restaurant to The Port of Hood River location. And 2023, the community of The Dalles was blessed with the opening of a new Solstice food truck.
Solstice The Dalles offers large pizzas, gluten-free pizzas, and pizza by the slice. You can also order salads, drinks, and a pizza/salad combo meal. In addition to these food items, they are currently offering wood-fired s’mores.
I opted to try the slice of the day, which was called Country Girl Cherry. It was made with dried cherries, chorizo, goat cheese, mozzarella and marinara. It was an amazing combination of flavors!
The goat cheese was smooth and creamy while the cherries added a slight tart flavor to the meal. The marinara was bold but not overpowering. The crust was perfect!
If you haven’t done so already, swing down and give Solstice a try!
Kimberly’s Cauldron
For an after-lunch treat, we checked out Kimberly’s Cauldron. They are another food truck parked outside of 6th Street Station. They are known for offering breakfast and lunch options.
Since we had already eaten, we chose to order a chocolate croissant for an after-meal treat. The service was friendly and fast. The croissant was served warm and was filled with melted chocolate.
If chocolate croissants aren’t your thing, you can check out their menu and find many tasty items including vegetarian and GF options. I have personally only heard good things about Kimberly’s Cauldron and their biscuits and gravy!
Bobatastic
In the true spirit of the former fast food buffet, we opted to get our drink somewhere other than where we got our food. It made perfect sense to try out Bobatastic while on-site at 6th Street Station.
Bobatastic is a food truck that serves boba, also known as bubble tea. For those who have never tried boba, it is a new and unique experience! The bubbles are made from tapioca pearls and they create a fun explosion of flavor in your mouth.
Bobatastic offers a wide variety of drink flavors and options. We chose a simple strawberry lemonade and added a popping strawberry topping. The combination was delicious and refreshing.
In addition to drinks, Bobatastic offers food options as well. Their food is varied and appeals to many different interests. You can order rice bowls, hot dogs, nachos, churros and more!
Food for All
6th Street Station and the food trucks parked outside offer food and drink options for everyone. Be sure to stop by and try one or more of the food trucks! Go inside and enjoy local artwork and a welcoming atmosphere. You will not be disappointed.
