The Dalles, Ore., June 6, 2024 — Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue (MCFR) received a call at around 11:07 a.m. of a structure fire at Celilo Inn in East The Dalles.
According to MCFR Chief Bob Palmer, the fire started in a room in the middle of the complex on the upper floor.
“The room of origin was room number 76. The fire did extend into the two adjacent rooms and extended into the attic until the crews were able to knock it down,” said Chief Palmer.
Crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading into nearby wildland.
“We had wildland exposure to this fire. And we have dry conditions right now so we wanted to make sure that the fire didn't spread,” said Palmer.
No injuries were reported to have occurred.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
MCFR, Hood River Valley Fire, Wy’East Fire District, Dallesort Fire, Dufur Fire, Mosier Fire, Klickitat County EMS, Klickitat County MS, Wasco County Sheriff’s Office, City of The Dalles Police, U.S. Forest Service, and the Oregon Department of Forestry all responded to the call. North Wasco County PUD also responded to the call in order to de-energize the building to make it safe for firefighters to do their jobs.
