Empty Bowls fundraiser returns Sept. 26 to fight hunger in the Gorge
The Dalles, Ore., July 29, 2025 — Empty Bowls fundraiser returns Sept. 26 to fight hunger in the Gorge The event will be held at the CGFB warehouse, 3525 Crates Way in The Dalles. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets go on sale at noon Thursday, Aug. 1, at https://auctria.events/EB2025. Admission includes live music, appetizers, soup, dessert, and a hosted bar featuring beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to select a handcrafted bowl—a symbol of the Empty Bowls movement—and enjoy a shared meal. All proceeds benefit Columbia Gorge Food Bank, the primary hunger relief distribution hub for Hood River, Wasco and Sherman counties.
The Empty Bowls project began in 1990 when Michigan art teacher John Hartom and his wife, Lisa Blackburn, developed the idea of using ceramic bowls and a community meal to raise awareness about hunger. The concept has since grown into an international movement.
The Columbia Gorge Food Bank first hosted an Empty Bowls event in 2022.
Those unable to attend the in-person event are encouraged to consider making a donation to support the food bank’s mission of building a hunger-free Columbia Gorge.
