The Dalles, Ore., March 11, 2024 – City of The Dalles Police responded to a call about a suspicious device, suspected of being a bomb in front of the Pizza Hut at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 9th.
The device was outside on the sidewalk by the door of the Pizza Hut.
Reports of the object described the possible bomb as “metal and duct tape rigged to a water bottle,” according to The Dalles Police log.
“It’s something that you don’t see every day; It might be an elaborate Joke,” the report to 911 Dispatch said.
The pizza shop evacuated and police set a perimeter around the building.
Due to the suspicions about the object being a bomb police did not approach the device upon arrival.
“We established a perimeter and photographed the item from afar,” said City Police Chief Tom Worthy.
Oregon State Police technicians with specialized training and equipment to address potential bomb threats were called in to respond.
OSP recovered the item and determined it was not a bomb and that the area was safe shortly after 10 p.m.
No injuries occurred and no arrests were made in connection with the incident.
