Cinematic Guitar Poetry with Hiroya Tsukamoto
The White Salmon Library is providing an online link to a Cinematic Guitar Poetry concert with internationally acclaimed guitarist and songwriter Hiroya Tsukamoto, “an innovative guitarist, and composer who fuses folk, jazz, and world music.” The video will be up until Jan. 3, and Tsukamoto hopes to schedule live performances in the libraries in 2023. Advent Concerts return to Riverside
From jazz, rock, country and blues, from old standards to fresh new work, this year’s Advent Concert Series at Hood River’s Riverside Community Church is a Christmas stocking of delights. The free concerts, on Fridays at Noon in the Riverside Sanctuary, are a 50-year tradition at Riverside.
Friday, Dec. 9: Jazz guitarist Charles Crosman. This classically trained guitarist has been playing the Gorge since 1990. The majority of his repertoire is drawn from Tin Pan Alley era jazz standards – songs with great lyrics that lend themselves to modern-day improvisation.
Friday, Dec. 16: Jazz pianist and composer Tim Mayer and friends: Joanna Grammon, vocals; Dave Henehan, guitar; Jon Green,bass; and Mike Grodner, drums. Tim and friends are a long-time Advent Concert favorite.
Holiday Art Show at TD Art Center
The Dalles Art Center is excited for the upcoming Holiday Art Show. Find work by Gorge artists like Mary Rollins and many others as the arts center continues the tradition of different artists coming to the center each Saturday leading up to Christmas. Kathryn Claire in concert
Portland musician Kathryn Claire presents a “Winter Songs” concert on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. at The Dalles UCC Church in The Dalles. Claire’s recent EP “Winter Songs,” features a new Winter Solstice song “Dark of December.” The show will feature guest musicians Sid Ditson and Don Henson. “Claire is a violinist, guitar player, singer, and songwriter. She has toured, performed and taught music extensively in the US, Japan, The Netherlands, India, Belgium and France.” Tickets are $10-$20 suggested donation at the door.
