Breaking News: McGowan Rd Fire

Lyle, WA August, 3, 2023— A 5 -10 acre fire is burning near McGowen Road at GPS location: 45.771567, 121.350983. An Level 1: GET READY has been issued for the area surrounding McGowan Rd.

The evacuation map provided by the Klickitat County 911 Dispatch / Emergency Management.

Fire Timeline from Columbia Gorge Wildland Fire Info:

3:43 p.m. Updated the GPS. Still do not have recent acreage estimate. Reports from locals indicate the smoke has been knocked down.

We are unclear about the previous evacuations at this time.  the fire was strongly attacked with air support and boots on the ground.

2:58 p.m. Lvl2 evac on McGowan fire working on specs 1 mile e,n,s and mile and a half south.

2:40 p.m. air command plane and fire bosses on-site. Initial location report was not accurate, but I’m adding a photo showing where the air attack playing is circling the fire.

2:15 p.m. Hand Crew Ordered.

Fire is along both sides of the driveway, mostly grass lands with a few shrubs, concern about the nearby tree line.

2:05 p.m. Helicopter inbound from Dallesport.

1:45 p.m. Asking for tenders from lyle and High Prairie.

1:35 p.m .Air support called in.
