House is a Zip with prefab walls and a crane
Contractors moved walls into position on this small home - an additional housing unit- on East 19th Street this morning, Dec. 8.
Kasey McCullough is adding the unit to his property as housing shortages in The Dalles have become dire in recent years. He is hoping to make a positive impact on the problem. High rent and low housing stock have been major barriers to locals finding affordable housing for more than a year.
Honald Crane was on site this morning to assemble the Zip Kit House. Crews were able to place and secure the walls after the crane moved them into position.
The house arrived in pieces on Tuesday, Dec. 7 on a semi-truck. The walls and roof were then staged on the property so that Mike Honald could lift and move them into position.
In his spare time, McCullough is part-owner and head brewer at Working Hands Fermentation, which operates the Height’s Taproom at 1021 12th Street in Hood River. It is also home to Slopeswell Cider.
