Warming Shelter Success Story in The Dalles
Many of our houseless neighbors suffer from ill-addressed mental health conditions and deserve compassion and to not die alone, outside when the temperature drops. Our community should be proud that collectively we were providing critically needed low-barrier shelter, if only temporarily.
Too Many Taxes; 'I will not vote for an additional tax'
Now, they want to spend $140 million on a new school! Until our governments get a handle on spending, and reduce tax rates, I will not vote for an additional tax!
ADA Ramp improvements in TD appreciated
I see that there is a big project going on around The Dalles making curb cuts at the corners. I’m so glad to see this because after my husband had a stroke and was in a wheelchair, it was nearly impossible to get him around town. If we had to go to appointments other than at the hospital where they have access, there was no way to get over curbs. He died eight years ago, but the pain is still fresh when I see this injustice.
Correction in regard to Mosier Fire District
I recently read a statement in the Columbia Community Connection by one of the Mosier Fire District Board candidates stating that Mosier has had four chiefs in the last five years. This is incorrect.

As an avid outdoorsman, I care deeply about our parks. I want to ensure we are managing our resources wisely and ensuring a strong and stable parks system for years to come. I also want to protect access to our parks and make sure groups like The Dalles Little League have safe and vibrant fields to utilize.
Guest Editorial: Gender Roles, Labels, and their effect on us
We need to destroy the boxes we have created and placed each of ourselves in. Humans are not meant to be put into the box that gender and the roles that come along with it force us into. Others may argue gender and gender roles are important because they provide “stability” in society which in some sense yes, yes it does. Though I don’t think this system is providing stability for us anymore because of how we are evolving and because of how more people are realizing they are not happy living like this.
Guest Editorial: Thriving medical community attracted me to the Gorge
The message that I hope can get out is that many of us in the rural medical community are still here to serve you. We understand the new realities of rural medicine and will see these multifaceted crises through, to affect the necessary changes and repairs. As we search for solutions to the crises, I have recently started to feel something else -- HOPE. There is already rebuilding in progress for medical oncology and other areas as we speak.
Take the Talk of Violence Seriously
Partisan meanness shows up in the media because it drives clicks, donations, and brand loyalty. Luckily, most people dislike this partisanship and want more working together. The majority of voters see the value of humility - not thinking we or our group know everything about everything.
