Local Tow Truck Driver Refuses Service for Biden Supporter
On Monday, Nov. 9, a video went viral on Twitter showing an individual being refused service based on their political views. A tow truck driver with Rivers Edge contacted through AAA refused towing service to a patron near Dallesport after showing up on the scene and viewing a sticker in support of Joe Biden on the back of their car.
Oregon Says Bye to Coal-Fired Energy for Good
On Oct. 15 Portland General Electric (PGE) permanently shut down Oregon's last coal-fired power plant located in Boardman. The plant was built in 1980 and ever since has caused alarm for environmentalists and gained the attention of regional media due to it being one of the largest single sources of greenhouse gas emissions in the state.
Connecting the Community Anonymously
Sense of Place, a program of Mt. Adams Institute, invites Gorge locals of all ages, both English and Spanish speaking, to share some of their unique life experiences. The program is connecting people from all over the Columbia Gorge with Dear Neighbor, a letter-exchange project that invites those living in the Gorge to write a letter to someone they’ve never met.

Park and restoration planned for Mouth of Klickitat River
The Forest Service and Klickitat Trout Unlimited are proposing a new site development in efforts of enhancing recreation opportunities at the mouth of the Klickitat River. Plans call for adding parking, prohibiting the launch of motorized boats, installing a restroom, and restoring natural vegetation, and eliminating erosion. The proposal intends to improve water quality, scenery, and vegetation in the lower Klickitat National Wild and Scenic River Corridor.

Klickitat County Low Income Seniors Get Help with Energy Costs
Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) and the Klickitat County Senior Services are assisting seniors to apply for two programs, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Klickitat PUD Senior Discount. Application processes will primarily be handled over the phone this year, rather than in person.

Lyle Pantry Feeds Families and Community Members
On Sep. 10th state officials and food providers released a statement saying food insecurity has been increasing statewide in Washington and Oregon. Due to the pandemic, this trend is expected to carry on for months ahead. The Lyle Good Food Pantry teamed up with Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) to provide meals to local families and community members. Their efforts in curbing the food insecurity in our region have supplied an average of 50 local families with a food box each month.

City of Hood River helps community needs with CARES Act Funding

Klickitat Chapter of Trout Unlimited Entered in National Challenge
The Klickitat Chapter of Trout Unlimited, a local, volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to improving and restoring local rivers and streams, has been entered in the Embrace A Stream Challenge, an online contest sponsored by Orvis and Trout Unlimited. From Nov. 2-8, the chapter has a chance to win its share of $20,000 in cash prizes to help fund the Mile One restoration, an initiative to collaboratively work with the United States Forest Service and other partners to restore habitat, decrease erosion and provide safe access to the lower Klickitat River in Lyle.
"Magic Mushrooms" on Oregon's 2020 Ballot
Voters are set to decide the fate of a law that would allow the use of “Magic Mushrooms” in the treatment of mental health conditions. If Oregonians approve the measure, it would make Oregon the first state to legalize the use of psilocybin to treat mental illness in adults 21 years of age and older.
Maintenance for the Victor Trevitt Guest House
This morning, Wednesday, Oct. 14, Brown Roofing crews worked to replace the old roof on the Victor Trevitt Guest House. It was built in 1868. During its long life, it sat in City Park for years. It was purchased for $7 by the Eagy family and moved to Fourth Street. Its restoration over time has made this once-to-be demolished home into an elegant Airbnb stay here in The Dalles.
