Wonderworks Children's Museum is Reopening
From Wonderworks Children's Museum:
The Dalles, Ore. March 4, 2024 – After being closed since October 1, 2023, due to financial challenges, Wonderworks Children's Museum has announced that it will reopen to the public on March 27, 2024. The museum is still in search of additional donations, funding, and volunteers to help with daily operations, so the museum will be reopened in phases.
The first phase will start during our local area's spring break on March 27, with the museum opening four days a week. This will be Wednesday-Saturday, 9 am-1 pm each day. This phase will enable the museum to test the sustainability of its operations before making any further expansions.
Financial Challenges and Closure
The museum faced financial challenges that led to its closure six months ago. The impact of COVID-19, coupled with declining donation revenue, made it difficult for the museum to continue operations. The decision was made to close temporarily to ensure the sustainability of the institution in the future.
Search for Donations and Volunteers
To fully reopen our doors six days a week, Wonderworks Children's Museum requires additional financial support and volunteers. While the museum has been able to maintain some of its staff during the closure, additional help is needed to ensure a smooth reopening and ongoing operations.
The museum has established an appeal for donations, appealing to individuals, businesses, and foundations who believe in the importance of providing educational and recreational experiences for children. Donations can be made online, through mailed checks, or in person at the museum.
Additionally, the museum is seeking volunteers who are passionate about working with children and dedicated to supporting the museum's mission. Volunteers can help in various areas, including guest services, events, exhibit maintenance, and administrative functions.
Many thanks to those who donated and hosted fundraisers to help us reopen, including StudioFit The Dalles, Sunshine Mill, The Dalles Workshop, Insitu, Wines on Second, Magic Juices, and Zim’s Sports Bar & Grill.
The reopening of Wonderworks Children's Museum on March 27 is a significant milestone for the institution. Despite the financial challenges it faces, the museum remains committed to providing a creative learning environment for children. The search for additional donations and volunteers is ongoing, and the museum plans to reopen in phases to ensure a sustainable and gradual resumption of operations.
