Winter Storm Warning in Effect for the Central and Western Gorge Dec. 8th

The National Weather service has issued a winter storm warning for the central and western Columbia River Gorge from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on December 8th.

Today’s Forecast for the Central Gorge: (includes areas such as the Upper Hood River Valley, Central Columbia River Gorge, the cities of Parkdale, Odell, Lyle, White Salmon, Hood River, Carson, and Underwood)

Heavy snow, with mixed precipitation is forecasted mainly west of Viento State Park. Additional snow accumulations of 1-4 inches, east winds of 5 to 10 mph, highs of 35 and lows of 30 degrees, and a light glazing of ice accumulations. The snow level is expected to be at river level this morning and rise up to 800 feet in elevation in the afternoon.

The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute and travelers should plan on slippery road conditions.

Today’s Forecast for the Western Gorge: (includes the cities of Corbett, Rooster Rock, Multnomah Falls,

Cascade Locks, North Bonneville, and Stevenson)

Heavy mixed precipitation, highs of 35 to 40 degrees, east winds of 10 to 20 mph. Reports of 3 inches have already occurred. Heaviest snow accumulations will be closer to Multnomah Falls. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of a  light glaze. Plan on slippery road conditions. 

NOAA recommends that if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Forecast for the Central Gorge this week: 

Friday brings a chance of two inches of rain or snow in the afternoon and evening. 

Saturday is forecasted for rain, highs around 40, and easterly einds of 5 to 10 mph. 

Sunday will be most cloudy with a 50 chance of showers and highs are 40 degrees.

Forecast for the Western Gorge this week: 

Friday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of afternoon showers, light wind in the morning, highs of 40 to 45. The snow level will be at about 1000 to 1500 feet. Little or no snow accumulation. And east winds of 10 to 20 mph in the evening.

Saturday will bring cloudy skies,  rain in the morning, highs 40 to 45. east winds of 10 to 20 mph.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy, with a 50 percent chance of showers and highs of 40 to 45.

Forecast for the Eastern Gorge this week:

Thursday brings a half inch of snow before 1 p.m. at 400 ft elevation and above, highs near 37 degrees, and lows near 29 degrees and mixed precipitation i the evening. 

Friday brings yet another chances of snow and rain between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Snow level will be at 500 feet. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 40 and lows near 32 with light east wind. T

Saturday brings rain and snow from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., an easterly wind, highs near 42 lows around 32. 

Sunday brings mostly cloudy skies, highs of 41 degrees, with a 40% chance of rain and snow. The snow level will be at 1400 feet.
