From The Dalles High School Athletics Facebook page: Moving on! The girls handle visiting Seaside to open the OSAA 4A Softball Championship Tournament with a 16-0 victory on Tuesday, May 23. The Riverhawks now await the winner of Marshfield/Astoria to see who they host Friday evening, May 26, at 16th Street Ballpark! Congratulations ladies!

Brady Wolf of White Salmon starts in on some excavating for the second Columbia Gorge Habitat for Humanity house at the corner of Kelly and 13th streets in The Dalles this morning, May 24. Crews were back at it, sizing up the lot just a couple of days after completing the first Habitat house next door, pictured. The nonprofit held a celebration for the completion of that home on Sunday, May 21. Rey Mendoza and wife Veronica Gonzalez and their children - Carlos, Mauricio, and Ariana are buying the finished home after putting months of sweat equity into it. They were excited about the opportunity to own rather than rent. The program has put dozens of families into homeownership since its launch in 1993, bringing generational wealth and stable housing.

The Dalles Salvation Army Service Center Coordinator Kristen Harmon talks about the food pantry at the nonprofit’s new digs at 811 E. Second Street on Tuesday, May 23. Salvation Army held a ribbon cutting and offered cookies and tours through the building. It marks a major change for the charity, which downsized from 24,000 square feet to 4,600 as it has flexed and changed to fulfill its main mission of helping people in The Dalles. Still, no word on a buyer for its former site at 623 E. Third Street, which is up for sale at $1.65 million.

From The Dalles High School Athletics Facebook page: That's a winner! The boys explode in the sixth inning to beat Stayton on May 23 at Quinton Street Ballpark. They now advance to the 4A State Baseball Quarterfinals against Gladstone at Gladstone on Friday, May 26. The first pitch is 5 pm!
