Waterfront Wednesday at the Baregeway Pub welcomes Rich and Blonde tonight, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. Well, the midnight headlight blind you on a rainy night - Steep grade up ahead, slow me down, makin' no time - But I gotta keep rollin' - They’ll be playin’ their life away - lookin’ for a sunny day
The Bargeway Pub welcomes Rich and Blonde to the stage tonight as they kick the back off of hump day and send a grin your way. The Dalles Premier outdoor venue is ready to make the night pop like their baja burger with an ice-cold RPM.
Proprietor Steve Kane has also been booting up the firepits and a Spanish Coffee can take the chill off a cool night.

Gather family and friends and join the community for the Maupin Holiday Festival: Merry & Bright 2023. During the event, kids and families can make holiday crafts at the Library. Santa will arrive at 2:30 p.m., and kids can visit and take pictures in the North Pole. Buy a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine on the patio and receive a free commemorative mug. Nonprofits, businesses, sports teams, or groups of friends can join the lamppost decorating contest for a chance to win $250. There will also be carols, Christmas music, and warming stations in the park. The event culminates with the traditional Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. We hope you'll join the community for this festive event. About the Event
Community members take the stage to share stories centered around a theme of the month. You can sign up to share a story, or just sit back and listen. Admission is by donation of any size; proceeds are donated to a local nonprofit each month to keep our community strong through the joy of sharing stories. Since our first event in November 2021, we've raised thousands of dollars for over a dozen Gorge organizations.
With suggested themes ranging from “Adventure” to “Taboo,” anonymous mini-stories submitted by the audience, and local wine and cider flowing all night, this event is a can’t-miss, and every month is different.

About the Artists
Winter Songs is a show inspired by the season with music to honor the shortest days and longest nights. Weaving together songs, instrumentals, traditional and original music and a few covers, Kathryn Claire invites the audience to join together in celebration of the season. Kathryn Claire has been doing a seasonal winter show since 2013 working with a variety of artists. In 2018, Don Henson joined her for Winter Songs on piano and percussion before incorporating Sid Ditson on violin and viola in 2019. The blend of this trio is stunning and their energy together is joyful and heartfelt. Having taken the past two years off due to the pandemic, Kathryn, Sid and Don reunited last year and released an EP featuring music Kathryn wrote specifically for the show along with a single “Dark of December”. This trio is thrilled to be playing the UCC Church this year for their first show in this lovely space.

The November show at 301 Gallery in Hood River focuses on art for gift giving with an Illumination theme, promising art to “bring light to the winter dark, and can resonate over years, such as ceramics and jewelry to painting and photography for the holiday season.
No Sweat Auditions at Civic Auditorium
No Sweat Auditions - A Theater Workshop for Kids takes place Sunday, Nov. 5, at The Dalles Civic Auditorium, from 1-4:30 p.m. “This three hour workshop will help children develop performance skills, learn how to prepare a presentation, and help to dispel audition anxiety. Students will learn about stage presence, public speaking, music and movement, memorization and basic acting skills.” Anyone can attend this one-day event, and no commitment is needed to audition or participate in other programs. Gorge Sinfonietta presents The Glory of England
The pomp, majesty and beauty of English music have enraptured music lovers for well over a century. Now, local audiences can hear what so many have discovered, as the Gorge Sinfonietta presents The Glory of England on Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center in Odell.
Sinfonietta conductor Mark Steighner says that The Glory of England focuses on the music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. “This was the so-called second English renaissance, when a new generation of British composers utterly transformed the musical landscape,” Steighner said. “Folk music was rediscovered and world music from as far as Japan found its way into the music of composers like Arthur Sullivan.”
At the heart of the Glory of England program is Gustav Holst’s epic suite for
orchestra, The Planets. “The Planets has been called the ‘best piece of English orchestra music ever written.’ It’s hard to overstate how powerful, innovative and influential it is, and has been on later generations of film composers.” The Planets is a musical description of Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. “Holst had just discovered astrology, so the musical identity of each planet is not just based on astronomy, but the mythical character as well.”
The concert also includes the Overture to Pirates of Penzance, Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March #1 (famous at graduation ceremonies everywhere) and selections by George Butterworth and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Steighner said, “All of our programs this season are accessible and easy to love. They’re all great concerts to bring friends and family to, especially those that might not have heard the Sinfonietta or other CGOA ensembles.”

Mike’s daughter, Classical pianist Elizabeth Strickland, will join her father for the dazzling piano show called Classical Meets ‘Pop’! From Rhapsody in Blue to Bumble Boogie/Flight of the Bumblebee, they combine their talents for wonderful solos and duets that will delight everyone!
His music outreach, mentoring programs, and master classes are always enjoyed by local students and the community. This concert will include an exciting outreach with local music students from the Gorge Area. Heritage Quilt exhibit at History Museum of Hood River County
The History Museum of Hood River County presents a Heritage Quilt exhibit opening on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 6-9 p.m. In this final exhibition of the 2023 season, come experience the stories told by Hood River County's heritage quilts and learn about the care of antique quilts with a Hidden History lecture hosted by our Executive Director, Anna Goodwin. Admission is free with suggested donation.
About the event
No two quilts are the same. As handmade works of art, each piece is completely unique on the surface. But beyond that, the originality expands, growing to include the person who made the quilt, how they made it, why they made it, and the journey it has traveled as it passed from generation to generation. Exhibit runs through Dec. 30.
