The Dalles, Ore., October 12, 2023 – Per Diem Thrift Shop, now known as Vibe consignment, has rebranded and moved out of the basement of StudioFit and into their own space at 416 E 2nd St in The Dalles. The store offers hand selected fashions, gifts, and plants from Nicole’s Nursery.
In the last few years Kaahreena Ochoco’s clothing resale business has blossomed from an online presence to having an in person impact. She had her first holiday pop-ups in 2021, followed by opening a store in the basement of StudioFit in 2022 and now, just a year later, thanks to some funding from Mid-Columbia Economic Development District and the Oregon Small Business Center she has her own street-level storefront right in the center of downtown The Dalles.
“It grew into something that I didn’t realize was going to grow so fast, which I’m thankful for,” said Kaahreena. “The storefront has been a dream I’ve had since high school.”
“I’m kind of on a little high because it’s been a full week open now and it’s just been so fun!” said Kaahreena.
As a young entrepreneur Kaahreena, knows what it’s like to juggle having several roles. She’s a mom, a StudioFit instructor, a fashionista, and a business owner. This has motivated her to offer a place to purchase fun affordable fashions that help support them in the multitude of roles they inhabit in their lives and share her love of dressing up with the community.
“I just love the idea of dressing up. It is so much fun…It’s about just being able to own every single role as we have in this world, we’re never really confined to just one sole label and our clothes should be able to represent that. There are so many things that make us who we are. So, that’s why my name here is Vibe Consignment and the tagline is: what’s your vibe? What’s your vibe today? How do you want to feel? How do you want to look? How do you want to present yourself?” said Kaahreena. “You can totally mix and match and some days you can have super Adam Sandler vibes or the next day you can dress up as much as you want.”
For Kaahreena, getting dressed in the morning is a mixture of functionality and style.
“When I became a mom, I got really lazy because it was less about style and looking cute and more about function and comfort. And now I’m at this point where I’m like okay, one doesn’t have to preclude the other. You can totally mix and match and some days you can have super Adam Sandler vibes or the next day you can dress up as much as you want. So for this day I need to be a mom, for this day I need to be a student, for this day I need to be a super hot fashionista,” said Kaahreena.
Have something to put on consignment? Nearly 80% of Kaahreena’s shop is made up of consignment items. And she accepts walk-ins so no appointment is needed.
“Right now I’m looking for fall and winter stuff, and men's clothing. I have a whole men’s section. I know there’s not a lot of places for guys to shop in The Dalles besides, like Fred Meyer. So I’m trying to build that up,” said Kaahreena.
Kaahreena hand picks each item for the store and says that those looking to put something on consignment should be aware that clothes should be high quality and undamaged and that typically pre-owned clothes can’t be sold for the price point they were bought at.
Store hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shop is closed on Mondays and Sundays.
