The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 28, 2023 - John Wollam, 28, of Vancouver in nature’s t-shirt and Danny Cassa were rock climbing today at The Dalles Skatepark with their two remote control crawlers.

The pair said they were taking the week off from work and camping at Deschutes River State Recreation Area while checking the area out.

“Nobody’s got that,” Cassa said looking at the recently built Mountain Bike Skills course near Safeway. Wollam, who has been visiting family in Maupin since he was a kid, was equally impressed with the new bowls at the The Dalles Skate Park.

“They’re putting a lot into parks here, huh?,” he said, adding that he was sad that they missed the pump track that will be constructed in weeks to come.

Skaters are drooling, waiting for the fences to come down on this new Skate Park Bowl next to the Aquatic Center in The Dalles. Contractors must first construct the pump track around the bowl before it will open to the public.
