About The Event
Mid-Columbia Community Concert Association is proud to bring back, by popular demand, the 11th annual Dancing With The Gorge Stars competition. Six local Gorge "stars" will compete for your votes at this mid-winter fundraiser for MCCCA. Like the reality TV dance show, our contestants learn a dance routine prior to show time. But in this show, the competitors are our friends and neighbors from the Gorge area. Paired with a professional dancer from the Utah Ballroom Dance Co., they have one week to learn and perfect their routines before performing on stage before a live audience. Video highlights of the rehearsals are shown during the event to showcase how far each contestant has come in just one week.
An entertaining judging-panel of three locals score each couple after their individual performance. During intermission the audience cast their votes which are combined with the judges scores and tallied to determine who wins the beautiful mirror ball trophy. The second half of the show is a spectacular performance of the Utah Ballroom Dance Co. with a professional showcase featuring a variety of highly choreographed and technical dancing.

As evening falls, the magic continues with Dufur’s famous Lighted Tractor Parade, where farm vehicles and vintage cars, adorned with twinkling lights and imaginative displays, roll through Main Street in a spirited competition. The night is capped with cozy dinners, including a locally-sourced menu at Bistro 1907 inside the historic Balch Hotel, or a traditional roast beef dinner at Dufur Market, both accompanied by live music.
Whether you’re coming to shop, dine, create, or simply soak in the holiday atmosphere, Dufur Hometown Christmas is a celebration of the season’s best traditions. Organized by local volunteers with the support of community businesses and charities, the event embodies the unique charm of Dufur—a town known for its welcoming motto, "What can we Dufur you?"

Mountain in My Mind gathers a variety of industry insiders’ takes on topics such as suicide, depression, anxiety, addiction, substance abuse, trauma, first responder trauma, survivors guilt, therapy, and much more. The film aims to provide viewers with advice for handling life’s toughest moments with a special lens of mountain and snowsports enthusiasts. The crew got together in the remote town of Cooke City, Montana and shared a cabin for 10 days. They used sleds to access some of the best terrain Montana has to offer and the film features pow skiing, backcountry jumps, backcountry freeride, halfpipe, street, and resort skiing at Grand Targhee and Mammoth.

Mt. Adams Institute’s Sense of Place series continues with “The Wolf Next Door: A Community Perspective on the Return of Wolves,” featuring PhD student Lara Volski. The event will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Doors open at 6 p.m., show runs 7-8:30 p.m. and will be livestreamed for virtual attendees.Lara Volski, a researcher in the People and Wildlife Lab at the University of Washington, studies human-wildlife interactions with a focus on wolves’ reintroduction in the western United States began her research on wolves by first talking to people. Her research involved living and working on a farm in the gorge and listening to local perspectives on wolves, investigating both ecological and cultural impacts.
Through confidential interviews, Volski has documented a broad range of community narratives about the Big Muddy Pack and broader themes of cultural, ecological and familial heritage, change, and community values in the Columbia Gorge. Her findings help paint a picture of the perceived risks and benefits of wolves, change in the Gorge, and the deeper desires of the community.

‘Hamilton’ Ticket CGOA Fundraiser
The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association is holding a fundraising raffle to win two tickets to see “Hamilton” at the Keller Auditorium in Portland, presented by Broadway in Portland. The performance is on Saturday, March 15, at 2 p.m. Raffle tickets are $20 each, and only 250 will be sold. Proceeds from this raffle will be used to fund free tickets for children and students for local performances by CGOA. Tickets can be purchased at CGOA concerts and at Apland Jewelers, 216 Oak St, Hood River (cash and check only).
The raffle drawing will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, at CGOA’s Jazz Collective Valentine’s Day Dance at The Ruins in Hood River. You do not need to be present to win. CGOA’s schedule of performances and ticket information can be found at gorgeorchestra.org

When Maria Maita-Keppeler was in college, she studied the ancient art of Japanese woodblock printmaking. “By the nature of the medium, you have to be bold,” she says — but, you also have to be delicate, deliberate, exacting. All those little cuts on their own add up to the whole — to a picture, a story, a life. The Japanese-American singer-songwriter applies that same approach to her band, MAITA; she only writes songs she intends to finish. The band’s latest LP, want, out July 25 via Fluff & Gravy Records, is all of the above. A razor’s edge look at a relationship in turmoil, the record serves to strip away everything undesired in Maita-Keppeler’s life, leaving behind only that titular word: want.
Desolation Horse makes crunchy, sweet, guitar-driven music rooted in pop in a way that takes the listener somewhere much weirder and wilder than they may immediately realize. These are confidently eclectic songs, “filled with stream-of-consciousness lyrics and twinkly, lo-fi guitars as expansive as the ocean” (NPR). Alternately based out of Idaho and Oregon, the band, led by multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter Cooper Trail, released their third album, “Biff,” on American Standard Time Records in 2023.

Kyle J. Glenn (he/him) is a singer-songwriter from Portland, Oregon, who has been writing and performing his own songs since 2014. His music blends indie folk, folk rock, alt-country, and singer-songwriter traditions, and his latest record, *Everywhere is Close to Somewhere Else*, reflects a decade-long journey to find "home." Inspired by artists like Gillian Welch, John Prine, and Big Thief, Kyle's story-driven songs have earned him features on Kink FM 102's Homegrown Discovery and performances at venues across the U.S., Spain, and Portugal. After returning to Portland in 2023, Kyle is assembling a band to bring his new album to life.
Shelby Natasha is a songwriter and music producer in Seattle, Washington. Heavily influenced by her upbringing living between China and the Pacific Northwest, her music is a blend of alt-rnb and Chinese folk music. Her ghost-like vocals are performed alongside the traditional Chinese instrument, Guzheng, layered on top lofi beats.
Leo Moon is the solo incarnation of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Brian Adrian Koch. California born and Oregon raised, Brian has been active in the Portland music scene since arriving in 2000. He is a current and founding member of indie rock band Blitzen Trapper (2000-present) and psychedelic folk duo Dead Lee (2018-2023) Appearing now as a solo acoustic performer, his minimal and haunting tunes are stripped down paeans to the glorious absurdities of life; harmonica spattered psalms to the void.
