Zoe Dunn, an 18 year old triple and long jumper from The Dalles High School was signed by Eastern Washington University yesterday February 28th, 2023. Dunn’s coaches, parents, friends and teammates all attended the signing.

“I’m super excited.” said Dunn, “They have a really good dental hygiene program, which is what I was mainly interested in. But I met the team and they were all very committed to both academics and sports. I was worried about the main focus being athletics but I’m glad that there’s a lot of very committed people with their academics.”

Dunn will receive a $1,000 scholarship for books and miscellaneous items in return for her participation in college Track & Field.

“There’s always an opportunity for a bigger athletics scholarship,” said Dunn “If I PR this season it can improve.”

“My events are triple jump and long jump. My PR in triple jump is 37 ft and 81 inches and for a long jump at 17 ft 10 inches,” said Dunn.

“Thank you to everybody that’s helped me along the way. Everyone in our town has been insanely supportive in our community and I’ve had help from the Resolute track club that has been amazing out in Portland and Oregon City. They’ve been a lot of help in the recruiting process,” said Dunn.

Proud mom Laura Dunn poses with her daughter Zoe Dunn at TDHS on Tuesday.

Zoe’s parents, Larry and Laura Dunn said they were “very proud” of their daughter.

“This will be the first one of my kids to go to an actual four year college,” said Larry Dunn, “I’ve got two other daughters and they both went to some community college.”

While Dunn would like to become a dentist one day, due to cost factors* she plans to graduate EWU with her hygienist training first before deciding to commit to another four years in order to become a dentist.

“I’ve always been interested in dentistry. And the eight years of dental school is a little bit too much right now, like financially, but I can always go back after I get my bachelor’s in dental hygiene,” said Dunn.

Congratulations Zoe and good luck in your upcoming track and field season!

*The resident tuition cost alone at University of Washington’s School of Dentistry costs somewhere in the range of $242,767 for four years.
