This past week, starting Dec 16th to Dec 18th, The Dalles high school boys basketball team played some tough basketball at a tournament in Woodburn and has some real success.

The Hawks made it to the semi-finals before falling to Woodburn in a close game.

But they dominated until that point.

The Hawks tournament started with a game against Mckay high school where the Hawks won by 12. The Hawks outshot, outrebounded, and outplayed Mckay most of the game. The only time Mckay had a lead was the first quarter. The Hawks would go on to win 75-63.

The second game of the tournament was played on the 17th and the Hawks took on the Dallas Dragons. The Hawks absolutely dominated, winning by 30 points. Senior Jaxon Pullen would lead the Hawks in scoring with 16 points and also sunk the most three-point shots. The Dragons could do nothing against the Hawks, only scoring 33 points in the entire game. The Hawks locked them up on defense and did what they needed to do on offense winning 63-33.

The Hawks then played in the semi-final against the hosting team, the Woodburn Bulldogs. It was a battle all game with both teams scoring fast. The Hawks committed numerous fouls during the game but some of them were interesting calls. Styles Deleon led the Hawks in scoring with 17 points, but the Bulldogs would beat the Hawks 61-54.

Senior Jaxon Pullen was truly impressed by his team.

“We played really well every game,” he said. “I know we’re a phenomenal team. We just have to keep playing hard, and I think we’ll keep winning games.”

The RIverhawks are improving with every game and are very talented and exciting to watch this year. Their next game is tonight, at 7 P.M at home against Scappoose High School.
