The Dalles, Or, July 17, 2023 - The identity of a man found deceased in the Deschutes River on July 13 has yet to be discovered as the Medical Examiner has been called in to assist in determining the cause of death, according to the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office.
There does not appear to be anything suspicious,” about the death said Wasco County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Scott Williams today, July 17.
The decomposition of the body is making it difficult to identify the individual, and there have been no reports to authorities of a missing person, Williams said, noting his office is working with authorities in Jefferson County and Warm Springs to find the individual’s identity.
Williams said it was unknown how long the body was in the river.
“Sometimes people don’t get missed for quite a while,” Williams said.
The Sheriff’s office initially received a report of the body being found in the general location of South Junction on the Deschutes River, which is about 30 miles south of Maupin.
The discovery was reported on Thursday, July 13 at 7:50 p.m., according to the Sherrif’s log.
