The Dalles Cascade Singers and The-Almost-All-Irish-Almost-All-Brass-Band presents the annual St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser at St. Peter’s Landmark. This annual event collects donations to benefit the historic St. Peter’s Landmark located at the corner of Lincoln and 3rd Streets. Official festivities commence Friday, March 17th, at 7:00 P.M.
This year’s event will start with music on the historic 1907 Kilgen Pipe Organ at 6:30 P.M. Then the “official” rollicking concert features solo and choral music, harmonium, dance, and poetry, as well as audience sing-along. Irish favorites are on the menu including McNamara’s Band, O Danny Boy, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra, and several others.
About Old St. Peter’s Landmark
Old St. Peter’s Landmark, originally known as St. Peter’s Catholic Church, was built in 1897, and was dedicated on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1898. In 1970, the Monsignor of the Church declared that the church should be torn down and the bricks sold. At the time, a new church was being built. A small band of citizens, concerned that such an exquisite building should be destroyed, formed Old St. Peter’s Landmark Preservation, Inc. By 1971 The building with all its remaining contents was purchased and Old St. Peter’s Landmark was saved from destruction for everyone to admire and enjoy.
This fundraiser provides a major shot in the arm for St. Peter’s Landmark, so come and show your support for this architectural and musical treasure.
