The Question this Week: How do you get warmed up on a cold day?
Ezra Maus, 19, The Dalles
We found Ezra up a ladder and cleaning windows for his new business called… The Dalles Window Cleaning, 541-340-4798. It was 34 degrees and Ezra was feelin’ the breeze.
“I try to find a hot tub, definitely,” he said. “I go to a friend's house. When you go snowboarding all day and get in the hot tub, oh man!”
Travis Burdine, 50, The Dalles
Travis retired from the Air Force as a Colonel. He piloted AWACS and predator drones. He now works for Insitu.
“We warm up by a real fire,” he said while awaiting the start of the Veterans Day Parade in The Dalles. “We burn oak, old fashioned style.”
His daughter, Greta, spoke up.
“Turn on the heat and sit on the vent,” she said.
Or you could do what his son Emerson did. He got up on Veterans Day at 5:30 a.m. and helped place 500 American Flags downtown with his Boy Scout Troop.
Nate Solis, 28, The Dalles
“Hot cocoa and a blanket,” Nate said while sitting with his family on a curb on Third Street also awaiting the floats to pass by.
“Just run around,” said his son Ashur. “Just run.”
Drew Bernier, Tyler Selves, Laura Daffron, Allen Refsland - it was a big group and the answers came fast and furious. I forgot to get their ages and where they lived.
“Big old pot of soup,” said Drew.
“Ugg Boots,” added Laura.
“Gotta have hot chocolate,” spouted Selves.
“Scarf around your neck. Dress in layers,” said Allen’s wife who said she was from Minnesota.
Darlene and Marlene Gaddy, twins, 74, Chicago - Marlene is 10 minutes younger.
The pair were visiting Phil Brady of The Dalles.
“If you have a health partner, hug ‘em,” Marlene said.
Victor Gonzalez, 33, The Dalles
Victor did not have to say a word.
As the parade was about to start, he was unloading a pallet of 80-pound bags of ready-mix concrete bags or Quikrete.
Yeah, that’ll keep the chill off, he agreed.
He works for Kiwi Fence and the crew was putting in a new fence and gate at Charter Cable, behind Burgerville.
