PUD Alerts Customers to Scam Artists Posing as Employees

By Joshuah Albert

The Dalles, Ore., March 11, 2025  — Northern Wasco County Public Utility District (PUD) has issued a SAFETY ALERT regarding reports of individuals impersonating PUD staff and contractors.

A PUD customer reported the interaction with imposters dressed like PUD employees this morning in West The Dalles, said Karen Heim, PUD Community Relations Program Manager. She said there is no reason for pole inspectors to be entering people’s homes.

According to the Heim, these impostors have been wearing gear resembling official PUD attire, approaching customers, entering homes, and taking photos.

Customers are urged to keep the following in mind:

  • The PUD's legitimate pole inspection project is currently underway, as communicated in recent emails.

  • Official PUD staff and contractors will never ask to enter a customer’s home.

  • Inspectors only need access to poles on the property.

  • All authorized personnel will carry proper identification.

If anyone claiming to be from Northern Wasco County PUD requests entry into a home, customers should not allow access and should report the incident immediately.

To verify PUD activity or report suspicious behavior, call 541-296-2226 or reference the email previously sent about the pole inspections.

The PUD stated it will provide updates if more details become available regarding the impostors’ clothing or vehicles.

"Your safety is our priority," the PUD said in its statement. "Thank you for staying vigilant."
