The Dalles, Ore., May 7, 2025 — A Grass Valley man struck three horses standing in the roadway early Wednesday, May 7 on U.S. Highway 97 southbound near milepost 34, according to Oregon State Police.
A Trooper reported the crash occurred around 3:36 a.m. when a silver Chevrolet Silverado driven by Moises M. Gonzales, 35, Grass Valley struck the animals and veered off the road into a ditch. No injuries were reported.
And Gonzales did not seek medical assistance.
“The horses were dead on scene,” according to OSP Lt. Jason Calloway. “It’s not open range through there. It is unknown at this time how they got out.”
He said the owner of the horses reported using them to work cattle earlier in the day and then put them away with gates closed.
The owner of the horses responded to the scene and removed the deceased animals. Gonzales was issued a warning for speeding.
The Silverado was towed from the scene by Barnett Towing and Service of Maupin.
