Oregon Tradeswomen offers Introductory Trades Career Class in TD for women & transgender individuals

Oregon Tradeswomen is now enrolling for our Laborer-focused pre-apprenticeship training for women and transgender individuals in The Dalles.
A mandatory orientation is scheduled for Jan. 24th in The Dalles.

This might be for you.
Journeymen electricians, for example, earn more than $41 an hour, and apprentices start at more than $18 an hour while learning their trade and getting increases as they become more experienced.
As part of a direct-entry program with the Oregon Laborers Apprenticeship, and thanks to funds from Google, Oregon Tradeswomen is offering a Laborer’s focused Trades and Apprenticeship Career Class (TACC).
The five-week class provides the training and hands-on experience needed to start your path to becoming a highly-skilled Construction Craft Laborer Apprentice.

So why is the class limited to women and transgender individuals?
“There are a few reasons - the main reason is that only 3% of all construction workers in the U.S. are women/non-men, and Oregon Tradeswomen is committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the skilled trades,” said Trytten Essing with Oregon Tradeswomen. “Women are often passed over for trades jobs compared to male counterparts and by providing them with an excellent and free education, they become more competitive in the job market.”
“Another reason,” Essing said, “is that our program covers gender-specific education that would help women in these jobs such as tips for dealing with menstruation, pregnancy and other women’s issues on the job site. Also, we prepare women (and transgender individuals) for the chance that they might experience harassment, hazing, and discrimination, at work and we serve as a resource and advocate in those scenarios.”
