Missing and Murdered Woman Found in Abandoned Vehicle in Stevenson, WA

Stevenson, Wash., Feb. 7, 2024 — On January 29, 2024, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office found an abandoned vehicle stuck in a snow berm in Stevenson, Washington. The Sheriff’s Office was later notified by the Portland Police Bureau that the abandoned vehicle was involved with a missing person, Jeannie Enyeart, 47, from Portland.
Portland Detectives worked with Skamania County Detectives, searching the surrounding area as well as Enyeart’s vehicle. Enyeart’s body was later recovered inside the trunk of the vehicle. While the Medical Examiner has yet to officially identify the woman, detectives believe the deceased is Jeannie Enyeart.
On February 5, it was determined that Enyeart was a homicide victim and Enyeart’s fiancé Jon French, 33 of Portland was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree abuse of a corpse, according to a Portland Police Bureau press release.
French was being held in the Multnomah County Jail today, Feb. 7.
Enyeart’s family has been notified of the recent findings. Famliy have shared with the media that neighbors had told them they had been witness to Enyeart being victim of domestic abuse. Family said that Enyeart’s situation highlighted how hard it can be for victims of domestic violence to leave their abusers.
French’s arraignment was held on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
While Enyeart’s family grieves and seeks justice, Skamania County officials shared the family’s gratitude with the community in a press release today.
“The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to Enyeart’s family and expresses gratitude to the community involvement in efforts to locate Enyeart,” read a Skamania County Sheriff’s Office press release.
While the community has expressed interest in the case since the beginning, Skamania County Sheriff Summer Scheyer said that there were good reasons details of the case were withheld until now.
“This case was complicated and information was restricted for dissemination to ensure case integrity,” the Sheriff said. “Difficult decisions were made to withhold details in the case as our sole mission was to obtain justice for Ms. Enyeart. Many details have yet to be released, as this investigation is ongoing.”
Specific details of a case are often withheld from the public as only the perpetrator of the crime could know that information, making it possible to identify and charge the person responsible.
