"Little Art City" - TD artists in overdrive

Art is abounding this gorgeous Thursday, Oct. 29th. A quick run around The Dalles quickly kicks up several feats in public art. And Yes, I stole the “Little Art City” from Al Hare’s “Little Music City.

Imitation is the best form of flattery.

In the Parking lot of The Dalles Wasco County Library Parking lot, Jeff Stewart was giving Darrell Clark a lesson on sculpting tools. The two have been working together on an eagle made of walnut. Clark said he has been working out some of the larger cuts and then Stewart is assisting and guiding him on the finer cuts. Stewart said they were meeting in the parking lot as classes were unavailable at the college due to the virus. But, he said they could safely work together in the parking lot.

Chris Pothier is down to some of the final work on the “All Together The Dalles” mural at 811 E. Second Street. Pothier has been installing the acrylic on aluminum panels all week. There will be a ribbon cutting on the Mural on Saturday, Oct. 31. Masks required ;)

Andy Nichols works on blowing some glass pumpkins at his studio on west Sixth Street back in September. Nichols and Stewart are collaborating on fish and river themed installation that pays respects to Bobby Begay of the Celilo Village in the new foyer of Dufur School. That will be coming together in months to come.

Dufur School Superintendent Jack Henderson shows off the new trophy case at the school. Henderson and his Rangers can’t wait to fill it. It was constructed by Sean Corbin of Sean Corbin Construction of The Dalles. Corbin, renowned for his skill with wood, started with another well-known carpenter, Henry Wooderson some decades ago.
