Library’s ‘Maker Monday’ event turns imagination into miniature museums

The Dalles, Ore. April 8, 2025 — Local crafters stepped into the world of oddities and imagination Monday evening at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library’s latest Maker Monday event.
Held on April 7 in the library’s Makerspace, the program invited adults to build a “miniature cabinet of curiosities,” encouraging participants to craft tiny scenes and collections that told a story about a fictional collector or character.
Attendees assembled and decorated small wooden cabinets, then filled them with an assortment of mysterious and vintage-inspired objects—from dried flowers and weathered maps to tiny vials and cryptic notes. Participants could use provided materials or bring their own items to personalize their creations.
The goal wasn’t just to create something crafty, but to spark storytelling through carefully chosen items. Some cabinets evoked the feel of a scholar’s study, while others hinted at the secrets of forgotten explorers or supernatural investigators.
The Maker Monday series is part of the library’s ongoing efforts to offer hands-on creative programs for adults in the community.
