It's Huckins Huge at Bargeway Pub on Friday with Birthday Bash and BB; Gorge guide to greatness

Bargeway Pub & Catering’s Entertainment Weekly

By Jim Drake

Singer-Songwriter Tyson Huckins turns 40 on Friday, Nov. 10, and he will be celebrating the big 4-0 at the Bargeway Pub in The Dalles as he pairs up with Ben Blakey or BB for some transcendent tunes and good times.

The Bargeway Pub keeps it rolling this week with multiple musicians and a tenacious tap selection at The Dalles premier outdoor venue at 1535 Bargeway Road.

On Nov. 10, Bargeway Pub and Catering welcomes the wisdom and storytelling of singer-songwriter Tyson Huckins. His music is embedded in catchy, emotive, earnest songs with tasteful touches of psychedelic guitar effects.

Jeff Carrell

Ben Blakey of the BB Lake Band agreed to share the night with me. I really can’t wait to share the stage with one of my favorite Columbia Gorge Artists, Huckins recently posted. Come join us at this fantastic venue on the river.

Take in those tunes with some crispy cauliflower and get that beat with some battered prawns.

And if you’re buzzing to get it going tonight - you’re in luck.

Jeff Carrell takes the stage at 6 p.m. and the music keeps rolling.

The Cheyenne West Duo hits the stage on Staurday. West is a country rock singer who performs classic country tunes as well as modern country tunes that you would hear on today's radio stations as well as some rock n roll covers and originals. Cheyenne will be with her guitarist Steven Ossana.

Fungus Among Us: Uncovering the Fascinating World of Mycology - Webinar

Enter the mysterious world of mycology (the study of fungi) with local experts Dr. Michael Beug and Krista Cushman as they share their knowledge about fungi and more in the Columbia Gorge.

Did you know that fungi are extremely important for forest ecosystems? Not only do mushrooms make a wonderful meal, but some species of fungi are vital for increasing plant biodiversity, decomposing woody material, and increasing plant water and nutrient uptake.

Join the webinar on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. for a free, live conversation with Dr. Beug, a local mycologist, and Krista Cushman, a local viticulturist. Live chat will be available during the webinar, so attendees can ask questions to our featured speakers.

It’s been a wild and crazy ride for the fellas in World’s Finest since their modest beginning as an acoustic duo in Portland, OR living rooms in 2011. With a songwriting style rooted in Americana, the band banks on their ability to transcend genres of all kinds. String-centric and bluegrass-inspired compositions seamlessly transition into 3-dimensional Psytrance, Funk, and Dub soundscapes, leaving their audience with a full-circle experience of emotion and dance. Their appreciation for punk and ska can be found peppered throughout their shows and albums, made evident by up-tempo, high-energy offerings. Never happy to settle, Chris, Dan, Sean, Evan, and Kirk continue to push through boundaries and challenge themselves, while hoping to inspire their listeners to expect the most out of what a band in the modern age can be capable of conjuring up.

Gorge Sinfonietta presents The Glory of England

The pomp, majesty and beauty of English music have enraptured music lovers for well over a century. Now, local audiences can hear what so many have discovered, as the Gorge Sinfonietta presents The Glory of England on Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center in Odell.

Sinfonietta conductor Mark Steighner says that The Glory of England focuses on the music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. “This was the so-called second English renaissance, when a new generation of British composers utterly transformed the musical landscape,” Steighner said. “Folk music was rediscovered and world music from as far as Japan found its way into the music of composers like Arthur Sullivan.”

At the heart of the Glory of England program is Gustav Holst’s epic suite for

orchestra, The Planets. “The Planets has been called the ‘best piece of English orchestra music ever written.’ It’s hard to overstate how powerful, innovative and influential it is, and has been on later generations of film composers.” The Planets is a musical description of Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. “Holst had just discovered astrology, so the musical identity of each planet is not just based on astronomy, but the mythical character as well.”

The concert also includes the Overture to Pirates of Penzance, Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March #1 (famous at graduation ceremonies everywhere) and selections by George Butterworth and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Steighner said, “All of our programs this season are accessible and easy to love. They’re all great concerts to bring friends and family to, especially those that might not have heard the Sinfonietta or other CGOA ensembles.”

Tickets are $25 adults ($15 for CGOA members), $5 for youth ages 10-17 and free for kids under 10. $5 tickets are available for SNAP/Oregon Trail card holders. Tickets and more information is available at

https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=194462
