First Friday Crushes in TD; Simmler artwork a HUB hit
Downtown activities for The Dalles First Friday got a real boost from local artist Todd Simmler who displayed 30 of his metal sculptures created from found objects at the scrapyard.
The creations seemed to set a curious tone for the evening. It was like people were discovering new creatures as they perused Simmler’s pieces.
“I was super stoked and had a great time,” Simmler said, thanking artist Chris Pothier for helping him access The HUB space and providing bartending services and good chatter.
Pothier was taking a break from an epic leg of work on the canvas as he is preparing for a show back east in September.
Simmler said the event brought a lot of people from out of town and was a great chance for him to catch up with friends and family.
And, of course, there was the dance party later in the evening.
Simmler was cutting a rug today, noting he sold nine of his pieces during the course of the weekend.
And by the way, Simmler is always in the hunt for wheelbarrows past their prime. He uses them to create his thunderbird and hummingbird sculptures. You can reach him at 541-490-9559.
