Clerk on Eve of Election: 'Make Us Work'
By Tom Peterson
Wasco County Elections Clerk Lisa Gambee had a challenge for voters this morning.
“Make us work,” she said. “We spend our hard-earned tax dollars to send these ballots out. Drop them off.”
The deadline for the May Special Election is tomorrow, May 18 at 8 p.m. It is too late to mail them. There are several locations to drop them off. See below.
As of this morning, just 18.11 percent had been returned or 3,276 ballots, Gambee said.
“It’s such an important election for local control,” she added. “It’s all about choosing the people who will decide how local tax dollars are spent… I would love to see a 50 percent turnout. I will take any ballot I can legally accept.”
Currently, candidates are vying for positions on school boards, Columbia Gorge Community College Board, fire districts, water districts, and the Port of The Dalles. See our Meet The Candidates profiles here.
