The Dalles, OR, January 24, 2024 – Looking for bald eagles? Look no feather — The Dalles Dam invites the public to their 14th annual Eagle Watch event on Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park rangers and partners from the U.S. Forest Service, Rowena Wildlife Clinic, The Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum and Perch Wildlife Education will answer questions about bald eagles and present live demonstrations of other raptor species inside the Visitor Center. Volunteers will also be present to aid in several interactive educational activities such as building a nest, bird bingo, origami, and more.

This event is free and the site is accessible to visitors with disabilities. Visitors are encouraged to bring spotting scopes, binoculars, and cameras. Activities will be both indoor and outdoor, so please dress appropriately.

If you can’t make it, better luck nest time! (Just kidding.)

During January, The Dalles Dam Visitor Center will be open every Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (subject to weather.) Staff will be on-site to answer questions, help people use spotting scopes and teach basic bird identification tips. Additionally, Seufert Park, which is adjacent to the visitor center, is open daily from dawn until dusk.

The Dalles Dam Visitor Center is roughly 104 miles from downtown Portland, as the bird flies. To get to the visitor center, take I-84 to exit 87, then go east on Bret Clodfelter Way.
