Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Near Cherry Heights Viewpoint

The Dalles Ore. Dec. 17, 2024 — A driver was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash near Cherry Heights Viewpoint, according to the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred December 14th, around 2 p.m. when the commercial vehicle used for transporting and installing solar panels appeared to leave the road, travel off an embankment, and come to rest near scrub oak, witnesses said.

Wasco County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, where the driver was pronounced dead. The identity of the driver has not yet been released.

Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue assisted deputies, using rope rescue equipment to remove the vehicle from the embankment.
