Community Garden that Gives Back
The community garden located at Calvary Baptist Church is still producing its fall crops. Seen growing were squash, beans, kale, and spinach. The garden is organized by Ty Haight, who planted most of the garden boxes.
“The community helped in expanding the garden from there,” Haight said.
This is the first year the community garden at the church has been growing, what Haight calls “the experiment year.” Over the summer volunteers met with members of the community at the gardens to teach gardening techniques.
Haight said some of the produce is sold at the farmers market and the profits are donated to the Church to help community members in need. Leftover items from the farmers market are donated to the salvation army food bank, supplying community members with fresh produce.
