Carjacker Subdued; Authorities deploy Taser after Vehicle Stolen at Knifepoint

Oregon State Police assisted The Dalles Police Department & the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office in the attempt to locate a subject who stole a vehicle at knifepoint near the Orient Cafe, according to police reports.
County and City units had initiated several pursuits with the vehicle as it continued to elude them across The Dalles including a chase up and down 7 Mile Road.
When the suspect’s vehicle was approached on foot by a Sheriff’s Deputy, the suspect attempted to run over the officer. Units attempted another pursuit and deployed spike strips against the vehicle in an attempt to disable it, the report states
State Police joined in the pursuit of the suspect and entered I-84 - shortly thereafter: the suspect was eventually boxed in at the Cascade Square parking lot.
The driver refused to exit the vehicle and shortly thereafter the passenger side window was broken out.
Daniel Lee Wood III, 31, Of The Dalles was taken into custody shortly. He was lodged at NORCOR jail in The Dalles on a $786,000 bond on charges of first-degree robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two counts of attempt to elude a police officer, reckless driving, attempted first-degree assault, criminal mischief, strangulation, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree attempted assault, attempted assault to a public safety officer, menacing, recklessly endangering another person.
The Dalles Police Department stated they would be issuing a press release on the incident later today.
