Kevin Selfe and the Tornadoes return to Bargeway Pub in The Dalles on Saturday, Aug. 26, starting at 7 p.m. as The Dalles premier outdoor venue raises money for local education.

“Kevin Selfe has been electrifying audiences nationwide since breaking into the blues scene in 2006. His growing stature as a captivating storyteller and passionate performer is surpassed only by his deft mastery of blues guitar.”

It is also rumored that TDHS Music Director Mic Kelly will also be on tap for the gig at Bargeway.

Auditions for ‘Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol’

Auditions for Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. at The Bingen Theater.

“Step into the twisty world of “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” by Tom Mula, where holiday spirit meets dark comedy. This unique adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic takes an irreverent turn. Follow the irritable ghost of Jacob Marley on a journey to save the one and only Ebenezer Scrooge. Whiskey Flats Brass Band will present a concert on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Two Rivers Heritage Museum in Washougal, Wash., at 2 p.m. “As always, euphonious sounds of the historic brass band music will echo throughout the museum.”

Call for Artists of the Gorge 2023

The 44th Annual Artists of the Gorge is an annual juried art exhibit showcasing the talent of local artists. Entry is free and open to all artists from Washougal to The Dalles and all of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Artists must be 18 years or older. This event is open-themed. Paintings, drawings, sculpture, wood pieces, fabric art, and other media will be considered. Entries must be RECENT (completed within the last two years) and original works. Copies, patterns, commercial art, or class work will not be accepted. Each artist may submit a maximum of two entries. Artwork must be suitably prepared for display (i.e., framed and wired, ready for hanging; under glass or plexiglass as appropriate, etc.).

It would be helpful if you would include a short statement on each work you are submitting. The submission deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023.

Accepted artwork will be on display at Stevenson Community Library from Oct. 7–Oct. 31.The exhibit will close at the end of Tuesday, October 31. Artwork may be picked up the following week during library open hours or at another time by arrangement.

An opening reception—the first since 2019—with music and refreshments will be held at Stevenson Community Library on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. Prizewinners will be announced at 7 p.m.

The exhibit will be viewable in the library gallery and online. Voting for People's Choice, when open, will be available in-person and on this webpage.

Front woman Paige Anderson grew up touring in her family bluegrass band, Anderson Family Bluegrass, starting at the age of 9. Fiddler Emilie Rose was raised on Scottish Fiddle and fiddle camps starting at the age of 9. In her early years, she led Celtic band The String Sisters who played together for 10 years in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Emilie has a deep understanding and love for folk music traditions.

Mac Cornish is a folk musician currently based in Oregon. Born and raised at the foot of the Santa Cruz mountains in the San Francisco Bay Area, she grew up among the redwood trees. While young in their careers, both Max Panzer and Yazmin Villegas have been developing their talent and exhibiting their work for years. Max and Yazmin have participated in The Gorge Artists Studio Tour (GAOS) with Yazmin still holding the record as the youngest artist to participate in GOAS. Max gained recognition early in his career through social media, selling 50 of his works within the first 4 months of his professional debut. These digital-native artists are active in sharing their work with the world through websites and active social media accounts.

His in-depth storytelling work has taken him around the world for clients such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, Washington Post, Outside Magazine, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Apple, Esquire and Starbucks. He has taught workshops in South America and on the Columbia River as a Nat Geo Expert on National Geographic Expeditions.
