Bailey & Son Excavating Coming Soon?
By Tom Peterson
The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 26, 2023 - It was hard to tell who was more excited.
Sean Bailey or his three-year-old son, Jack.
They were deep inside the cab of an excavator at the at the Wonderworks Chidren’s Museum at 206 Madison Street on Saturday morning in The Dalles.
It was just one of many vehicles the two explored at the Touch-A-Truck event and fundraiser.
“There are all of his favorite things here in one block,” Sean said after climbing out of the excavator and looking for the next big thing.
With a ton of help from local agencies, Wonderworks organized more 15 vehicles to be on site including garbage trucks, police cars, fire trucks, excavators, ambulances, ladder trucks, and bucket trucks, even a Humvee.
Kids and their parents were invited to touch their favorite trucks and equipment.
There were a lof of buttons, levers and pedals to push, as operators gave tours of the vehicles that are necessary to keep a community up and running.
In addition, free life jackets and bike helmets were being handed out - Michael Holloran with Oregon State Police was even providing car seat safety checks.
Hundreds of children and their parents turned out for the event that ran from 9 a.m . to 1 p.m. which even offered a little cooling down with the Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue ladder truck spraying down kids who needed some relief from the heat.
“We had the BEST day at our Touch-a-Truck Event and fundraiser! Our hearts are so full of gratitude, wonder, joy, and appreciation for all of the staff, board members, volunteers, operators, and visitors who joined us today!!” Wonderworks posted on their Facebook page. “You all BLEW OUR MINDS. You showed up by the hundreds, brought your adorable children & explored right along with them, and were so generous with your donations. It was incredible seeing the joy on your faces, hearing the laughter, witnessing the wonder, and talking with so many of you. THANK YOU!!”
