A garage and boat were destroyed by a fire that started around 11:45 p.m. on Monday, March 27, according to The Dalles Police log.

A case number was taken for suspected arson and criminal mischief, according to the log.

No one was injured said a man this morning, March 28, who answered the door at the home where the garage caught fire at 519 E. 12th Street in The Dalles. He said he owned the boat and was saddened by the destruction.

Nearby neighbors said the blaze sent flames shooting into the air with plumes of black smoke and according to the police log. A loud explosion, possibly from propane, could be heard. The boat was made of fiberglass.

Embers began falling on nearby houses, according to the report.

Firefighters from Dallesport and Mosier were called out and a drone deployment was used to observe the fire from the air.

It was also noted in the log that they had a report that “someone all in black ran northbound through a yard out inf front of 10th Street near 1 a.m.

“Thankfully firefighters came and put it out pretty quick,” said one neighbor who did not wish to be identified.
